Ann Valos is the principal of Ann Valos Criminal Law.
She completed a Bachelor of of Laws/Arts at the University of Melbourne in 1985 and attained specialisation in 1994.
Prior to opening the firm, Ann initially worked at Gill, Kane & Co in 1987, then at the Western Suburbs Legal Service from 1987-1993 as a lawyer and community education worker, establishing the Western Youth Law line with Footscray Community Legal Centre, and at Victoria Legal Aid - Western Suburbs Regional Office and Youth Law division for 10 years, from 1993-2003.
In 2003, Ann established Ann Valos Criminal Law, opening the first office in Werribee. In 2016, she expanded by adding the Abbottsford office.
Ann is a dedicated member of the profession. She has been volunteering with WESTjustice (formerly Wyndham Community Legal Centre) since 2003. She was also a previous member of the police powers and family violence working groups at the Federation of Community Legal Centres and is currently an active member of the Criminal Law Executive of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Victorian Custody Reference Group.
Ann is renown for her high success rate in bail applications. Her strength lies in her ability to effectively cross examine police, quickly highlighting deficiencies in the prosecution case. She also handles majority of the indictable and appellate cases of the firm due to her extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with complex matters.

NATALIE PERERA
LLB/BA, Graduate Diploma Legal Practice
Natalie is one of the firm’s solicitors and was admitted to practice in 2012. Natalie joined Ann Valos Criminal Law Pty Ltd in 2018. Prior to working with the firm, Natalie worked at the Office of Public Prosecutions as a solicitor, she was the Coordinating Associate to the Sexual Offences List at the County Court of Victoria and volunteered with the Footscray Community Legal Night Service.
Natalie appears regularly as an advocate in matters relating to Youth Law, Summary and Indictable Crime, Family Violence Intervention Orders, Personal Safety Intervention Orders and Infringements. She specialises in Sexual Offence cases and Indictable Crime matters. Natalie is a passionate and dedicated advocate.
She excels in building rapport with her clients and their families whilst navigating them through a very difficult period in their life. Natalie is a member of the Criminal Law Section Committee and was previously a member of the Sexual Offences Working Group Committee at the County Court of Victoria.

LINH CAO

Linh is one of the firm’s senior solicitors and is also an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist.
Linh is also bilingual and speaks fluent Vietnamese. This extremely advantageous for her Vietnamese clients inside and beyond the courtroom.
Linh joined Ann Valos Criminal Law in 2011. Prior to working with the firm, Linh worked at Victoria Legal Aid (Goulburn Regional Office) and in private practice.
Linh appears regularly as an advocate in matters relating to Youth Law, Summary and Indictable Crime, Family Violence Intervention Orders, Personal Safety Intervention Orders and Infringements. She specialises in drug crime,representing many of the firm’s clients who are charged with cultivating and trafficking drugs (in commercial and large commercial quantities).

TIM HANCOCK
Master of Laws (Juris Doctor), Graduate Diploma Legal Practice
Tim completed his Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) at Monash University in 2015 and joined Ann Valos Criminal Law in July 2017.
Prior to his career in law, Tim completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Melbourne University and worked in dairy farming and infectious disease research at the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory.
Tim has previously worked in private practice for one year, establishing himself quickly as a persuasive and articulate advocate. His other work experience includes roles as a legal support officer at the Barwon Regional Office of Victoria Legal Aid and as a paralegal at Hall & Wilcox, undertaking above insurance claims from the Black Saturday bushfire litigation. In addition, he also volunteered at the Barwon Community Legal Centre.
Tim's strength lies in his advocacy skills. He is able to understand his audience and put his client's case in a way which that audience will find palatable and persuasive. He is quick on his feet when challenged by the bench, and develops and advances his client’s case to secure the best outcome.

KATRINA HARTMAN
Katrina completed her Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (First Class Honours) in 2012 at Flinders University in South Australia and was admitted to practice in May 2013. Throughout university Katrina excelled in advocacy competitions winning the Flinders University open moot 2008 to 2012 and witness examination competition 2009 to 2012. She represented Flinders University nationally in advocacy competitions from 2008 to 2012. She achieved 3rd nationally in the 2009 constitutional law moot. Since being admitted to the legal profession, Katrina practiced exclusively in criminal defence law in South Australia appearing for clients in Magistrates' Court and District Court matters. She prepared appeals to the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia. Notably, she assisted in preparing an appeal to the High Court of Australia of a murder conviction and sentence. In addition to her defence work, in 2015 she lectured first year criminal law students at Flinders University. Since moving to Victoria in 2016, Katrina has worked exclusively in private practice. She joined Ann Valos Criminal Law in April 2017.

WENDY BARACIOLLI
LLB (Honours), Graduate Diploma Legal Practice.
Wendy completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Deakin University in 2012 and was admitted to practice the following year. She joined Ann Valos Criminal Law in 2013, whilst completing her practical legal training through the Leo Cussen Institute.
Wendy works part time at the firm and specialises in indictable crime and appellate work. She assists our principal, Ann Valos by helping to prepare all complex criminal matters such as homicide, sex, drugs, fraud, armed robbery, aggravated burglary, serious driving offences etc. listed in the County and Supreme Courts, as well as instructing counsel in trials. In conjunction with Ann, Wendy is primarily responsible for majority of the appeal work at the firm, particularly appeals to the Court of Appeal.
Most recently, Wendy has become responsible for the firm's infringement cases, whereby special circumstances is the primary consideration. Her strength lies in ensuring all matters are thoroughly prepared for court, and that the best possible outcome is regularly achieved for all clients.
Wendy is a strong believer in justice and is a dedicated member of our team.
